Issue 6 of It Takes All Kinds is now accepting submissions. Publish date will be in early April. Submissions are due March 31st.

Submissions guidelines

ITAK is a literary compilation zine. As such, the following types of items are encouraged and will likely be accepted:

  • Comics (BW or Color)
  • Reproducible artwork (BW or Color)
  • Short stories
  • Columns
  • Rants/Editorials/Opinions/Reviews
  • Poetry
  • Articles
  • Random thoughts

Failure to complete the following may result in your submission being rejected.

    1. Submissions are accepted in one way: via email. Your submission can either be sent in the body of the email, or (in the case of artwork) as an attachment. You may also use the website YouSendIt to send large files.

    2. The following file types are accepted: .odt, .pspimage, .jpg, .gif, .png, .doc, .txt. Any other file types will be rejected.

    3. In your submission, you must include your contact info (to receive your copy), a bio and publishable contact information (email address, website). If your are a repeat contributor, you can omit this part. I will re-use your previous bio/contact info, unless you inform me of any changes.

    4. All submissions must have one of the following subject lines: “ITAK” or “It Takes All Kinds”. Any other subject line will not guarantee that your email won’t make it into the spam folder.

    5. All submissions are to be sent to misty [at] bravegirlstudio [dot] net.

    6. Your submission must be in by the deadline, unless you’ve made previous arrangements. Issues are quarterly on the following schedule: January [deadline December 31], April [deadline March 31], July [deadline June 30], October [deadline September 30].

    7. I reserve the right to reject any submission for any reason, but most likely because it offends me or promotes an “ism”.

What you get in return for submitting to ITAK:

  • Since I can’t quite afford to pay anyone yet for their submissions, I am paying by way of one contributor copy per issue that publishes your submission.
  • You also can take advantage of the discounted rate for extra copies, which is currently 33% off the retail price of the issue in which your submission appears.
  • You also get mentioned and/or linked at bravegirlstudio.

    Ordering

Ordering is done one of the following ways [prices are per issue]:

  • Send $2 or 4 stamps (cash well concealed) to Misty O’Brien, PO Box 5052. St. Cloud, MN 56302

    Issue 4 is done

The fourth issue of ITAK is done. Well, it was done about 3 weeks ago, and I forgot to post about it. [There’s a lot of other life stuff going on lately, as usual].

Click on the link to the left for issue 4 to read about the contributors. I’m still working on posting images from the issues.

In other news, I started a “best of” the first year, which should be out in December. Issue 5 will be out in January. I’m still toying with the idea of subscriptions, so you’d automatically get your copy every quarter.

In non-publishing news, I’m looking for a different car. My beloved Taurus has a dead cylinder in the engine, the radiator and the water pump are leaking, and the driver’s seat is detached from the base. It is now a glorified storage area until I find a different car for the interim. Becoming a one-car family with two conflicting schedules should be a nice challenge.
